Celebrating Black History Month with Hounslow Council: Honouring Our Communities
Reflecting on local heritage, hearing powerful personal stories, and celebrating the culture and resilience that shape Black history in our borough.

Hounslow Council marked the start of Black History Month on 1 October with an event held under the theme “Honouring Our Communities”, recognising the contributions of Black people to society. The programme brought together residents, community representatives and invited speakers to reflect on Black history, celebrate cultural heritage and highlight the importance of inclusion and representation. We were invited to attend as the lead speaker for this year’s event, which formed part of Hounslow’s wider commitment to acknowledging the experiences and achievements of Black communities.
The event opened with a warm introduction from Councillor Samia Chaudhary, setting the stage for our CEO, Rodgers. Taking to the audience, Rodgers reflected on our organisation's rich history, deep community roots, and key milestones. But the real essence of the presentation came next, as three programme beneficiaries—Susie Clark, Christian Osory, and Aniisah Issaq—shared their personal stories about how our programmes have transformed their lives.

The presentations were followed by a wonderful showcase from Springwest Academy, featuring a moving poem, a talented choir, and an inspiring speech from their English teacher. Guests then gathered to enjoy lunch provided by Heritage Kitchen and Bar to wrap up the day.

We are deeply grateful to Hounslow Council for this opportunity and to all our long-time supporters. Our community and stakeholders are the backbone of everything we do, and we couldn't have done it without you.
