Janet from RDN took the session, inspiring us to think creatively about possible project ideas to do in the area. To help us with the brainstorming, we watched a short video clip on how sharing our skills and talents contribute to making a project work. The clip focused on a charity in Africa which helped those affected by the civil war in Sierra Leone to find employment and start their own businesses. This provided a good starting point as we saw how we can reach many people through simple ideas.
Some of the ideas we came up with ranged from addressing social issues such as smoking to hosting a social event to bring the community together. Afterwards, we fed back in groups and discussed which event would have the biggest positive impact on the community. It was agreed that we should do a community event for families and young children in the area and that should be our focus.
